The €1 million donation, which will be split among the three universities, is part of Finland’s centenary celebrations this year.
“The ability to conduct continuous, diverse scientific research work in collaboration with universities, businesses, and other parties is critical for constructing a sustainable future.” It is also critical that university training programmes generate top specialists with the knowledge and skills needed to help companies renew and prosper. “Through our donation, we hope to support universities representing important branches of science in their ability to provide internationally competitive scientific research and education,” commented Matti Kähkönen, president and CEO of Metso Corp.
Metso has long collaborated with prominent colleges around the world.
“Tampere University of Technology has conducted long-term research and product development in several fields, including materials technology, mechanical and production engineering, and hydraulics, in collaboration with Metso.” “The Metso donation is a wonderful recognition of this fruitful collaboration,” said Mika Hannula, president of Tampere University of Technology.
“In addition to materials technology, mechanical engineering, and business and economics, important and topical areas for both of us include design, digitalization, and the Internet of Things,” Tuula Teeri, president of Aalto University, said.
“We have trained many experts who now hold key positions at Metso, and even now, our students are training and working on thesis projects at the company,” stated Jouko Niinimäki, president of the University of Oulu.
